Livestock Development Division of the Ministry

Introduction

The Livestock Sector as a sub-sector of the agriculture sector currently contributes around one percent to Sri Lanka’s Gross National Product (GNP). The majority of around one million families employed in the livestock sector are rural families. Growth achieved in the livestock sector makes a considerable contribution towards the enhancement of the economy of the rural people. The Livestock Development Division plans and implements projects with the objectives of encouraging producers to supply more hygienic and qualitative animal products to the market and saving foreign exchange required for importing livestock products.
